The Shrouded

An exploration into seeking and uncovering - striving to discover the truth of one's self and the universe. Drawing on themes of archaeology, hidden pasts, and the fragile remnants of history, the piece reflects on the plaster casts of Pompeii’s victims - frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. These casts - preserved in their final moments - serve as poignant reminders of the impermanence of life and the human condition.

The work also delves into the ancient practice of burial - a universal ritual that has bound cultures together for thousands of years. Burial represents the love and reverence we extend to the deceased - sending them into the ground with care and symbols that honour their journey. This act - deeply intertwined with grief, respect, and memory - reflects our ongoing connection with the past.

The shrouded figures symbolise the concealment of truth and identity - much like the layers of history that remain buried yet not forgotten. The Shrouded invites reflection on the delicate balance between revelation and preservation - urging us to consider how our past - even when hidden or lost - continues to shape our present and future.
